The Pipe Is Right

Happy Sunday everybody, hope your weekend was long enough and that you feel refreshed for a new week ahead. My weekend wasn't too busy, other than seeing a lot of friends and eating a ton of food, the main feature was the show I saw on the East Side in Manhattan.

I was invited to shoot at a gallery viewing this weekend titled “The Pipe Is Right”. The showcase featured sherlock pipes.

I’ve never attended a show like this before, it was dope. The pieces there are by far the nicest glass I’ve ever seen in person. I had chance to meet a few of the artists and they were so chill and humble, it was such a pleasure.

I went to the event with my good friend and long time photographer of the glass blowing scene, Jesse Gottfried. Jesse has been watching these people work for a long time. He has quite the collection of photographs on his Instagram account @photosillicate, a page dedicated to awesome photos of glass art.

It’s clear that Jesse has been in this scene for a while. He seemed to know everyone in the room.

Some of these pieces are fairly big, and weigh a bit too. Others are much smaller than you’d imagine them to be in person. I’m not sure which I find more impressive, but I would say that I’m more attracted to some of the smaller pieces. Perhaps those just seem to be less likely to break in my clumsy hands.

This trippy ode to cacti is a preferred piece of mine for sure. I love the colors and the shimmer, a style that the artist is famous for, made using dichroic glass. It reminds me of the wacky times I had in the south west…

New* Coffee Table

My younger cousin James adopted a new hobby in 2018. He started using reclaimed wood slabs and colored epoxy to create these funky looking tables.

When I moved to Queens last October I asked James to bless my new space with a new coffee table. He didn’t hesitate. James listened to my concerns about the table such as the dimensions, shape, functionality, and of course the epoxy color, and got right to work.

This table is sturdy, lightweight, and pretty to look at. I am not only happy with my product but I am proud of my cousins progress as a craftsman.

I am currently waiting on a second piece by him for my kitchen. It’s going to be a matching kitchen island, I’m pumped to see it in February.
